Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul Rail-Road Corridor (ITI-ECO).

The Islamabad (Pakistan)-Tehran (Iran)-Istanbul (Turkey) Rail-Road Corridor is a key project of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

The Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul (ITI) Railway Corridor is made up of two corridors:

  1. Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul Railway Corridor (ITI, ECO Containers Train)
    1. Cargo and container transport
    2. The ECO Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul container train (6,543 km) has been running regularly since August 2010.
      1. Turkey: 1,950 km
      2. Iran: 2,603 Km
      3. Pakistan: 1,990 km
    3. Estimated time: 11 days
    4. Over 30% reduction in rail fares compared to traditional routes
    5. Transport capacity: 20 wagons of 40 feet
    6. The Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul Railway Corridor has a great potential
    7. From Turkey the corridor can link up with the European rail networks
    8. The container train connects to the Marmara submarine railway tunnel (Turkey)
    9. India and Bangladesh have expressed interest in connecting to the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul Rail Corridor

Transit Transport Framework Agreement (TTFA) signed by Pakistan, Iran and Turkey.

  1. The main objective of the Transit Transport Framework Agreement (TTFA) signed by Pakistan, Iran and Turkey is to provide access to landlocked countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation (ECO) region
  2. Approval: 2000
  3. Type of transport: Road, rail and inland water transport
  4. An Agreement has already been reached on unified fares and train schedules in each country
  5. Ratified by eight ECO member states: Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Turkey
  6. Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have not withdrawn the agreement
