The Member States of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) are Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and East Timor. Observer member countries: Andorra, Argentina, Chile, Czech Republic, France, Georgia, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Namibia, Mauritius, Senegal, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey, UK, Uruguay. Spoken by 230 million people, Portuguese is the language of Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, São Tomé, Guinea-Bissau and East Timor. There is a movement to make Portuguese one of the official languages of the UN. Portuguese is spoken by 190 million people in South America, 16 million of Africans, 12 million of Europeans, 2 million in North America and 330,000 in Asia.
