The EU and Their Institutions

The European Commission acts as the executing agency of the EU, drawing up proposals for new Community legislation and implementing decisions taken by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU. The European Commission is politically independent.

The European Commission also monitors the compliance with the European legislation.

The European Commission is made up of the so-called 'college of commissioners', made up of a representative from each member state of the EU.

The European Commission was created in 1958 and its headquarters are in Brussels (Belgium). About 32,546 people work at the European Commission.

The European Commission has identified ten strategic priorities for employment, investment, Digital Single Market, energy union, climate, internal market, Economic and Monetary Union, trade agreement with the U.S., importance of the EU on the global stage, etc.

The European Commission manages the Structural and Investment Funds of the EU.
