EU International Relations

In 1995 the EU began free trade negotiations with the MERCOSUR (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay). Negotiations were adjourned in 2004.

The EU decided to re-launch the negotiations with the MERCOSUR in 2010.

Status: In force.

Foreign Trade EU-MERCOSUR

  1. Foreign trade between the EU and the MERCOSUR represents nearly as much as the EU trade with the rest of the Hispanic American Markets
  2. The EU was the first largest trading partner of the MERCOSUR (21% of the total trade of the MERCOSUR)
  3. The MERCOSUR ranks eighth among the EU trade partners (2.7% of total International Trade of the EU)
  4. The EU is the first market of the MERCOSUR for agricultural exports (20% of the total EU's agricultural imports)
  5. Top European Union exports to the MERCOSUR are industrial products (including the machinery), transport equipment and chemicals products
